Message from the President

Amcham PresidentI am very thankful to the Amcham Board, the members of the Slating Committee and our members for appointing me as the 20th President of the American Chamber of Commerce in Sri Lanka. I humbly accept this prestigious office and consider it as an honour bestowed upon me.

I joined the AMCHAM board in 2009 and my involvement with the activities of AmCham had become part of my routine. Despite of the demands of my regular Job, I am passionate about the work I do at AMCHAM and consider it as a great privilege for me to hold this office.

At this point of time I must thank Suren Rajanathan, our immediate Past President for his dedication and capable leadership during the past year and also the outgoing office bearers and board members for their support and comradeship.

I am very confident that my task in leading this Board will not be a difficult one. I have a team of excellent leaders with proven track records joining the board in 2014/15, in steering Amcham to the next level. The Board members this year represents some of the best known Companies in Sri Lanka with a good blend of the various economic sectors. Therefore we have ample resources to peruse the main objectives of the Chamber.

My Board and I intend planning our activities for the coming year 2014/15 based on the following main objectives:

  1. To continuously create value to our members
  2. To facilitate business relationships, trade and investment opportunities and other vital connections to support US investments in SL.
  3. To promote Sri Lanka’s growth initiatives and her strategic position within the ASEAN region.
  1. Creating regular opportunities for interaction and networking with other members of business communities, US Embassy officials and officials of the government of Sri Lanka.
  2. Strengthening AmCham Sri Lanka’s role as a “reliable partner” on business, trade and investment issues
  3. By creating international business links through trade delegations
  4. By sharing information with other AMCHAM’s in the region.

We intend continuing the good work of the outgoing board in activities such as the AMCHAM Ball, the Charity Golf Tournament, the Bowling Tournament, Luncheon meetings, CEO Forums, IPR and CSR projects, Networking Happy Hours amongst various other activities and events. We will be giving priority to membership retention and development and establishing closer cooperation with member companies. Committees representing the main economic sectors will be formed and each of these committees will look into ways and means of providing value added services to our members. We will continue to be involved in advocacy and lobbying on behalf of our members whenever we are called upon to do so. We intend strengthening our media relationship in a way that would benefit the Chamber and its members.

We are thankful to Her Excellency Ambassador Michele Sisson and the US Embassy staff for their unstinted support given to Amcham in all its activities. We look forward to further strengthening our ties and to work closely with all sections of the Embassy.

Finally, I would like to assure all that I will do my very best to continue the good work of my predecessors.

Sincerely
Asanka Ratnayake
